Amelia Harper is planning to teach tutoring classes in the Rocky Mount, NC area in the 2011-2012 school year. Amelia has eight years tutoring experience in addition to classroom teaching experience. She is also the author and publisher of Literary Lessons from the Lord of the Rings, a one year literature program published three years ago and used by hundreds of homeschool school students across the nation. In addition, she has considerable writing experience, with over three hundred published articles to her credit. She is also a contributing editor to The Old Schoolhouse Magazine and a speaker at conferences here and abroad. For more information about Amelia's published works, please click here. Below are the two classes that we are now planning for the coming year. Classes are subject to interest level and not all classes may be offered. Classes will be held on a weekly basis at Old Carriage Road Baptist Church, just off of Hwy. 64 in Rocky Mount. If you are interested in having your student take one of these classes, please contact us through the e-mail link below or call 252-459-9279. We will then send you an application to fill out and provide you with more information about when the classes will take place. Class sizes will be limited to no more than nine students each, so please apply right away. Literary Lessons from the Lord of the Rings (Can be also titled "An Introduction to Classic Literature and Literary Analysis) This class covers not only one of the most popular and influential books of the past millennium, but also delves into its source material, introducing the student to the ancient epics, Beowulf, the stories of King Arthur, poetry scansion, linguistics, and much more. Covers 130 literary terms and 600 vocabulary words. In the class time, grammar and punctuation will be reviewed briefly, but will not be covered in depth. Writing instruction and assignments will be given and graded by the instructor. Test and quizzes will also be given and graded and a grade for the course will be issued. Fun enrichment activities are also planned (such as celebrating Frodo's birthday and watching the movies at appropriate times as a class). A great way to learn literature and basic writing from the author of this acclaimed curriculum! Please contact us by August 10, 2011 so that we can judge interest level in the class. Class size is limited, so contact us as early as possible. Cost: $90 per student per month. $50 textbook fee (one time charge) Students will also need a copy of The Lord of the Rings that coordinates with the page numbers in the curriculum. If you need help deciding if you edition works, please contact us. Copies are available through HomeScholar Books. Time: Classes begin the last week of August. Time to be announced. Classes will meet weekly for a two and 1/2 hour hour period. Location: Old Carriage Road Baptist Church, just off of Hwy. 64 in Rocky Mount, NC Age level: This class is appropriate for students in 7th to 12th grade. 11:30 a.m. Course covers the study of
Greek and Roman mythology, a survey of World Literature, vocabulary, grammar
review, and writing. Class is designed for high school level and will
alternate with British Literature and American Literature in future years.
Students meet once a week and are given assignments to complete in the
coming week. Cost:
$90 a month for Sept-May . A $50 fee will be due by August 10 to
hold your place in the class and to cover the cost of books for the
course. However, this amount will be deducted from the fee due for the month
of May. Time:
Fridays 9:00-11:30 am. Classes begin August 26. Place:
Old Carriage Road Baptist Church which is located just off Hwy. 64 ˝ mile
from Nash Community College. Grades:

Amelia Harper, the
author of Literary Lessons from the Lord of the Rings, has a B.A.
degree in English and more than 10 years teaching experience as well as 25
years’ experience as a homeschool mom. She is also a free-lance writer with
